Hockey Clinic at Ice Town – Riverside lastnight

So last night was my first night gearing up and getting on the ice.   I got there around 8:45 and watched some of the teams practice and admired their ability to skate and handle the puck like they do.  I was walking around, and I saw three guys just standing around, BS’ing so I walked up to them and asked them if they were there for the hockey clinic. They all said they were and we just started talking. Then 9:30 came around, and it was time to go to the locker room and get all geared up. We did that, then stepped out on the ice. The first thing we did was start skating around, getting warmed up. I was, by far, the worst skater there. But hell, we all have to start somewhere. So Garth, the hockey director, asked me what i needed help on most, and he saw that I was having a hard time stopping, so he showed me that first and told me to practice it. I’m starting to get it. Then we start doing cross-overs and one one of my last turns my legs get caught up in each other and I go flying! I landed pretty hard on the ice and everyone just looked at me. I got up and they all just patted me on the back saying good try, and you’ll get it, and been there done that.. those kinds of things.. Made me feel good that they understood what I was working through. It was awesome having everyones support.  So the night went on, I started getting better at skating, I tried a few shots against the goalie, didnt make anyhting, but I tried.

All in all it was a lot of fun and I cant wait to get back out there.  I am going to go next Tuesday if everything lines up alright.

Got home around 12:20, went to bed.
